Is there nothing she can’t do?

She took out the gong in 2020 and now Sarah has been shortlisted for Travel Writer of the Year at the 2022 Australian Society of Travel Awards. (She has also been shortlisted for Best International Story Over 1000 Words. Not a bad for a portfolio of pandemic-era travel stories, eh?)

If you haven’t crossed paths with Sarah before (to be fair, she’s often out hiking one), allow us to acquaint you.

Sarah got her start in journalism chasing musicians and pop-stars as a features and entertainment writer for Cosmopolitan and Grazia before finding her calling in travel –first moving on to work as a Destination Editor at Lonely Planet in London before switching the office for the life of a semi-nomadic freelance writer and editor.

Along the way, she has contributed travel features and photography to the likes of Lonely Planet, National Geographic Travel, BBC Travel, Adventure.com, AFAR, Travel + Leisure, CNN, The Guardian, The Independent, Wanderlust, Rough Guides, Fodor’s, Escape, Qantas, Jetstar, Gourmet Traveller, Delicious and others, with her original and boundary-pushing spins on her adventures having seen her pick up a number of awards that have also included Specialist Travel Writer of the Year: Emerging Destinations at the UK’s Travel Media Awards. She has also flexed her content chops on projects for travel and lifestyle brands including Tourism Australia, Destination NSW, Intrepid Travel, Airbnb, Hipcamp and YHA.

Sarah is also a passionate advocate of positive-impact travel. In 2021 she completed a Graduate Certificate in Sustainable Tourism Management, and she is also a member of the Australian Society of Travel Writers’ Sustainability Committee. You might have also spotted her byline on The Sustainable Travel Handbook (Lonely Planet), and The Bucket List Eco Experiences (Rizzoli) – just a few of the 20-odd travel guides and reference titles she has written or contributed to over the years.

She’s been a proud staffer on the We Are George team since company inception.
